What is Music Therapy...

In a music therapy session for a child with Williams Syndrome, there might
be many things to cover. Colors would be a great focus in a session.
There are many, many songs dealing with colors! The goal/objective of those
activities would be to help in identifying colors better. Other topics which
could be covered could include: Emotional Control, Stranger Dangers, Social Appropriateness of certain things, Math, Spelling, Reading, Gross and Fine Motor Control, Flexibility, etc...

Although music education and music therapy are at times very much the same,
they are in fact VERY different. Music therapy does not usually involve
teaching someone to sing or play an instrument, however, in some cases it
might. Music therapy usually has NON-musical goals.

Music therapy uses music to work on other things. It can,
but rarely involves teaching an instrument. Music therapy is for those with
musical training, as well as those who do not know a thing about music.
