Note: As I am not a medical professional I do not want to
prescribe any treatment for your child. I do wish to share how the different
therapies are applied with our child. Please contact you health care professional to
compare treatments and exercises that may work for you.

W-Sitting is
bad for joints! In this position Mary is not using her muscle to balance, rather she is
locked between both legs. This is why she likes to do it; she does not have to work
very hard to stay in an upright position. We move her out of the W-Sitting when we
catch her in it so she can gain strength and proper balance skills. Sitting with
both legs to the side or in front in much better. Our PT says not to panic when it
happens or react if it happens for less than a minute but do move her when she's there for
much longer.
Kneeling is okay. It looks similar to this but the legs are under the body not at
the sides. In PT we practice high style kneeling where Mary is not sitting but has
lifted her body up while her legs stay in the kneeling position.
